Moving and handling

This moving and handling people training course aims to help reduce the risk of injury to both staff members and the services user when performing people moving & handling techniques in the workplace.

Moving and Handling in Avid Care

Proper moving and handling techniques are essential in avid care to ensure the safety and well-being of both caregivers and patients. These techniques minimize the risk of injury, maintain patient dignity, and support mobility. Key principles include:

  1. Use of Assistive Equipment: Tools like hoists, transfer belts, and sliding sheets reduce physical strain on caregivers and enhance patient safety.
  2. Body Mechanics: Caregivers should practice proper posture, bend their knees (not their back), and avoid twisting movements to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.
  3. Patient Involvement: Encouraging the patient to participate in movements promotes independence and reduces physical effort for caregivers.
  4. Risk Assessment: Before any transfer, assess the patient’s mobility, strength, and cognitive status to determine the safest approach.
  5. Training and Compliance: Caregivers must undergo regular training on safe handling techniques and adhere to legal guidelines and workplace protocols.
